Following the success of his debut EP Peace of Mine, First Nations musician Yung Maynie released his highly anticipated new single 'G.U.S.U' on January 23.

Aside from its catchy beat, the new single also marks a pivotal moment in the young singer's career, transitioning from a successful NRL journey to fully dedicating himself to his passion for music.

"I was lucky enough to represent my people on the footy field, and now this is my way of doing it through music," Yung Maynie said.

"With G.U.S.U, I'm using my platform to honour my cultures, empower my community, and speak out about the issues that matter most."

The track's title, 'G.U.S.U' (standing for Get Up, Stand Up), serves as a direct call to action for unity and resilience.

Featuring a sample of Bob Marley's legendary anthem Get Up, Stand Up, it blends the global message of justice with Yung Maynie's own journey as an Indigenous artist, reflecting the strength, pride, and resilience of his people.

Produced by Brisbane's Bayboy and mixed and mastered by Brayden Jay, the track is being described as a hard-hitting and uplifting anthem that merges contemporary sounds with Yung Maynie's rich cultural heritage.

Passionate about creating music with a purpose, Yung Maynie says 2025 was the right time to drop the new single.

"With everything that's happened across Australia and New Zealand in recent times, there's no better time to drop this track than now," he said.

"It's important that I use my voice for change, and continue to share our stories because if we don't our culture dies. This track is my contribution to our story."

A proud Indigenous and Māori artist, Yung Maynie is more than just a musician - he's also a former professional rugby league player in the NRL known for his impressive athleticism and work ethic on the field.

Despite his busy schedule, he's managed to balance both his passion for music and sport, and continues to push himself to succeed in both fields.

Yung Maynie's music is a unique blend of hip-hop and R&B, with soulful beats and introspective lyrics that showcase both his talent and vulnerability.

He uses his music to tell the story of his life, community and culture - touching on themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.
