Tremane Baxter-Edwards, a proud Ngarinyin and Walmajarri man from Wyndham in the East Kimberley, has been named a WA Dreamer.

Affectionately known as 'Buster', Mr Baxter-Edwards was selected by Tourism Western Australia to represent Indigenous Experiences.

At 19-years-of-age, Mr Baxter-Edwards is the youngest six WA Dreamers chosen to represent different experiences in the state based on their areas of expertise.

During the section process conducted by Tourism WA, WA Dreamers were assessed on their connection to the state, the originality of their work, audience engagement, values alignment and their ability to showcase the state in a meaningful way.

Deeply connected to Country and community, Mr Baxter-Edwards is known for his leadership in regional development, youth empowerment, and fostering strong engagement between Aboriginal communities and all levels of government. NIT spoke to Mr Baxter-Edwards during National Reconciliation Week last year.

A tour guide at El Questro, he has worked across Local, State, and Federal Government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and the private sector.

A passionate advocate for emerging Aboriginal leaders, he's known to champion pathways for young people to succeed and his goal is to shape policies and programs that strengthen community capability, support economic participation, and build respectful partnerships.

He said he is guided by his grandmother's story - a powerful woman who dedicated her life to representing Aboriginal people across the Kimberley and the state.

"I always think about her wherever I go," he said.

"I think about where she was born, and how far she'd come from being a bush woman, literally born under a boab tree.

"She raised me to be a very proud Aboriginal man, and my ultimate dream is to one day hold the highest office in the land, as Prime Minister of Australia."

As a WA Dreamer, 'Buster' will be involved in content creation, storytelling projects, media opportunities and some Tourism WA campaigns.

This is the first phase of an ongoing program and Tourism WA said that the Dreamers initiative will continue to be developed in coming years.

The other WA Dreamers are Aaron Green for Road Trips and Station Stays - Aaron Green, Amberley Lobo for Arts, Sport and Entertainment, Anouska 'Nush' Freedman for Nature and Wildlife, Cameron Bostock for Hikes and Trails, and Paul 'Yoda' Iskov for Food and Drink.

Mr Iskov, head chef at Fervor, has a reputation championing native ingredients and Indigenous food traditions. He connects with local Elders in each location he hosts pop-up dinners.

WA Dreamers are engaged in paid agreements and at this stage, have been appointed until the end of 2026.

WA Dreamers is an extension of Tourism WA's brand, Walking on a Dream.
