Yamurrah's third annual 'Be About It' Gala is set to return to Sydney's Curzon Hall in Marsfield on Thursday, bringing together women from all backgrounds to celebrate legacy and sisterhood while raising vital funds for the community.

Held by independent First Nations collective Yamurrah, this year's 'Be About It' Gala centres on the theme 'Legacy' - honouring the women who have inspired others, while encouraging guests to reflect on the legacies they are creating for future generations.

Featuring awards, panel discussions, cultural and musical performances, and shared conversations over dinner, the Gala is expected to be a night of celebration and connection.

"The Gala itself is a night to try to uplift, encourage and inspire all the women...We're trying to bring all these women together into one room to meet each other and get inspired by each other," said Tynga Williams, a Wiradjuri, Gamillaroy and Noongar model, dancer and administrative officer and the personal assistant to Yamurrah's Director.

"The whole notion of it is sitting down next to somebody that you've never met and talking to them and finding out the incredible things that they're doing, and then sharing the incredible things that you're doing.

"It's kind of like this inspiration swap over that encourages and fosters this growth of supporting and uplifting women, but also doubles as a fundraiser for our RISE portfolio."

Yamurrah's RISE program provides pro bono support, offering free mental health services, including counselling and therapy services to the community or to any victims who are currently undergoing grief, trauma or loss.

"It's almost like a first aid to any mental health care situation. Anybody experiencing loss in the moment or a traumatic event that's really shaping them, they're able to access this counselling service and these free mental health services through RISE, thanks to the fundraising that we do here at 'Be About It'," Ms Williams said.

Now in its third year, the Gala has grown to more than 200 attendees - a reflection of the growing community support around Yamurrah's core values of empowerment and connection.

It's this growth which inspired this year's theme, Ms Williams explained.

"We're just thinking of the legacy it creates, and that Yamurrah creates, and what our RISE portfolio does, but also the legacy of the women in the room as well," she said.

To honour the theme, the Gala's dress code encourages attendees to wear outfits "that showcase legacy for you and bring your story to life. It could be a colour, special accessory or style of your outfit".

"We're honouring those women and their perspective on what life is, and we're trying to get them to showcase that in their outfits themselves," Ms Williams said.

"We have women who come fully dressed up in their respective cultural dress, what's traditional for them, and we find that really beautiful, because that's a conversation starter as well.

"The intention behind it all is to make a statement, so much so that the person standing next to you that you've never met before, wants to start a conversation with you."

While the Gala promises an evening of glamour and celebration, Ms Williams said the intergenerational nature of the event is what makes it truly special.

"A lot of the time that we put this event on, the women that attend, they bring their Nan, or they bring their aunt, or they might bring their daughter, and it does become a little intergenerational in that sense, and that is so honouring the legacy of it all," she said.
