The Murri School in Acacia Ridge held its annual NAIDOC Family Fun Day on Friday, bringing together community members to celebrate culture, connection and Country.
This year's NAIDOC Week theme, 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,' was reflected throughout the day's activities and performances.
The event opened with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, followed by a lineup of cultural entertainment.
Traditional dancers performed ceremonial songs and dances, while Torres Strait Islander group Kutaw Zoeru, shared songs and movement from the Torres Strait.
A community member said the event has become a staple of their NAIDOC Week.
"I love coming to Murri School's NAIDOC Day – it's always so much fun," they said.
"My little ones love the rides and I always spend too much money at the stalls.
"The dancers were so good plus the performances from the other mobs."
Newly renamed group Langwij, formerly known as The Eatles, also performed, attracting attention from young people and families.
Throughout the day families visited a range of stalls featuring Indigenous-owned businesses and services focused on health, education, sport and cultural awareness.
Children enjoyed carnival rides, rock climbing and other family-friendly activities set up across the school grounds.
An Elders' tent was set aside to provide older attendees with a shaded space to sit, connect and enjoy coffee and cake.
Organised by the Murri School community, the Family Fun Day continues to offer a space for people of all ages to come together and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
The event remains one of the largest community gatherings in the area during NAIDOC Week.
