Bagala Aboriginal Corporation has announced the schedule and lineup for the highly anticipated Barunga Festival 2026, taking place over the King's Birthday Long Weekend, June 5-7.
Often drawing more than 4,000 visitors to the Jawoyn community, 80km southeast of Katherine, this year's smoke and alcohol-free event promises an unforgettable weekend of authentic Indigenous culture, high-energy sports, and a world-class musical showcase.
The 2026 main stage features a roster of iconic and emerging Indigenous artists, headlined by Australia's most decorated country music artist, Troy Cassar-Daley.
He will be joined by the legendary Uncle Frank Yamma, indie-pop sensation Jem Cassar-Daley, the deeply resonant Emily Wurramara, and dynamic performers Rob Edwards, Eleanor Jawurlngali, and Arnhem Land's own Garrangali Band.
In addition to the main acts, the Battle of the Bands (BOTB) returns to the Ngamutjulu (Nah-Ma-Choo-Loo) Stage. The stage name was selected by local musicians and Traditional Owners to reflect a Bagala skin name.
This crucial platform for emerging, unsigned Indigenous bands offers a career-changing grand prize: a songwriting workshop with Mr Cassar-Daley, a professional studio recording, a festival photoshoot, and the opportunity to perform on the main stage on Sunday night.

Voted a top-tier "Indigenous First" experience by global travel experts, the Barunga Festival offers a rare opportunity to camp on Country and engage with the world's oldest living culture.
Alongside the music, attendees will witness traditional Bungul (dance) ceremonies at sunset, browse the famous Indigenous Art Market in the Mr W. Runyu Art Pavilion, and participate in cultural workshops. Attendees can also cheer on remote communities competing fiercely in the Barunga AFL, basketball, and softball tournaments, or join in the action themselves with the Barunga Marathon (a 5km fun run).

With over 4,000 visitors expected to attend the event, the 2026 Barunga Festival is not to be missed.
Tickets are available now online. All tickets act as Full Festival Passes and include unassisted camping under the spectacular skies of the Top End.
The Barunga Festival is made possible through the major financial support of the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). The festival is also proudly sponsored by Tourism and Events Northern Territory.
