UMI Arts will mark the end of the 2024 exhibition season with The Summer Show - a visual art and jewellery collection by 12 Far North Queensland First Nations artists.
Themed Affordable and Portable and featuring 41 artworks across various mediums, The Summer Show will celebrate its official opening with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country by Henry Fourmile for exhibiting artists, supporters and the public on Friday the 22nd of November, from 6pm.

UMI Arts' Exhibition Officer Aleksandra Kostic said The Summer Show, which showcases fine art and gift wares created by the organisation's talented member artists, is a timely exhibition in the lead-up to Christmas and is priced accordingly.
"The artists who created this vibrant show of works were asked to draw inspiration from the far northern summer and dynamic, electrical energy of the tropics. Each piece expresses inspiration through various materials and mediums and has a unique story or provenance. The artwork's lines, forms, textures, and structures tell stories about the artist, their existence and how they experience a typical tropical summer," she said.
"The Summer Show will be a colourful celebration of First Nations culture and the incredibly diverse environment we experience here in the Far North."

This year the Summer Show 2024 features artists Jinneecka Don, Shirley Collins, Gaylee De Bree, Kevin Edmondstone, Dorothy Edwards, Shane Gibson, Melanie Hava, Marilyn Kepple, Ethel Larry, Anzak Newman, Connie Rovina, and Michelle Yeatman.
Established in 2005, UMI Arts is the peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural organisation for Far North Queensland. This area extends north of Cairns to include the Torres Strait Islands, south to Cardwell, west to Camooweal and includes the Gulf of Carpentaria and Mt Isa regions.
The Summer Show is an annual group exhibition of UMI Arts member artists. It is the final exhibition in the UMI Arts calendar for 2024 and runs until 20 February 2025.
The Summer Show is open from Monday to Friday from 22 November 2024 to 20 February 2025 between 10 am and 4 pm at UMI Arts Shop 4, Jensen Plaza Gallery, 1 Jensen Street, Manoora.
