Walmatjarri and Bunuba hip-hop artist and producer Kayps has announced his debut album 'Bunuba Baby', set for release on Friday, August 14, through Bad Apples Music and Universal Music Australia.

The 20-year-old has also revealed the album's lead single, '765', which will be released worldwide on Thursday, June 25.

The track is the first taste of 'Bunuba Baby' and blends melodic hooks with detailed rap flows.

Co-produced and mixed by Calvin Bennett, '765' is built around bass drums and synths while leaving space for Kayps' voice and delivery.

Kayps said the single introduced a more personal project about culture, identity and reconnection.

"765 is the first single off my forthcoming album Bunuba Baby, which is a project to showcase a personal side of me, speaking more about my relationship with culture, facing the confusion, anger and frustrations of being mixed race and coming to terms with the fact that it's ultimately ok," Kayps said.

"Lyrically, it relates to how my peers interact with my culture, both negatively and positively.

"Growing up with a very culturally distanced upbringing and how that distanced the relationships I have with family and land, but also growing to gain a better understanding of what I need to do to reconnect, while showing an understanding of the political issues that plague my culture."

He said the album title had become more than a creative idea.

"Coming to terms with all of this means carrying the title of Bunuba Baby is becoming more of a reality for me than just a creative character," Kayps said.

Kayps has built momentum across the music industry since being awarded the triple j Indigenous Initiative in 2021.

He was also named a Top 5 Finalist in triple j Unearthed High in 2021 and 2022.

In 2023, he was selected as the Western Australian representative for the Mushroom Creative x Coles First Nations Pathway Program.

He was later crowned Good Intent's Greater Good 2025 winner before signing with Briggs' Bad Apples Music.

Kayps has also performed internationally at SXSW Sydney and SXSW Austin, Texas.

His recent run has included support slots for Denzel Curry and Kneecap.

Kayps will perform at the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Week Event in Mirrabooka, Western Australia, on Thursday, July 9.
