A new photographic display celebrating National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame inductee Jessica Mauboy has been unveiled by the Australian Music Vault.

The display features seven photographs from Mauboy's Yours Forever 2024 tour in Albury, Newcastle and Canberra, her album cover shoot, and her performance at the 2024 National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA) Awards.

The Kuku Yalanji and Wagaman woman said she was honoured by the recognition.

"I'm deeply humbled to be inducted into the NIMA Hall of Fame and to see my journey celebrated in the Australian Music Vault," she said.

"Music has always been my way of sharing story and spirit, and I hope this display inspires future First Nations artists to honour our heritage and follow their dreams."

Arts Centre Melbourne curator Ian Jackson said Mauboy joined a significant list of artists in the NIMA Hall of Fame.

"Jessica has always maintained her commitment to community and proud First Nations identity," Mr Jackson said.

"The Australian Music Vault celebrates the story of Australian music, and it is wonderful to put Jessica Mauboy in her rightful place at the heart of that story."

Mauboy's mother's family is from Far North Queensland, and she was born and raised in Garamilla (Darwin).

She grew up listening to traditional music from her parents and country and pop albums with her four sisters.

At 16, she rose to national prominence on the fourth season of Australian Idol, performing Whitney Houston's 'I Have Nothing' at her audition. She finished as runner-up and signed with Sony Music.

Her career with Sony included four studio albums; Been Waiting (2008), Get 'Em Girls (2010), Beautiful (2013) and Hilda (2019), producing nine Top 10 singles and sixteen Top 20 singles. She has collaborated with international artists including Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and Jason Derulo, and supported Beyoncé on her 2009 I Am… tour.

In 2010, Mauboy began acting, appearing in Bran Nue Dae (2010) and The Sapphires (2012), the latter earning her an AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

She starred in two seasons of television series The Secret Daughter (2016), releasing two soundtrack albums, the first making her the first Indigenous artist to reach No. 1 on the ARIA Album Charts.

Mauboy was the first solo artist from outside Europe to perform as a guest at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 and represented Australia in 2018 with We Got Love.

She also served as a coach on The Voice Australia for three seasons before working on her fifth album, Yours Forever (2024), which was nominated for Album of the Year at the NIMAs and Best Pop Release at the ARIA Awards.

In the past year, Mauboy toured Yours Forever nationally, premiered her one-woman show The Story of Me - A Musical Journey Through My Career at Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and performed a gospel-inspired cover of Yothu Yindi's World Turning for triple j's Like a Version during NAIDOC Week.

The NIMAs, established in 2004, are the largest annual celebration of First Nations music in Australia, recognising achievement and excellence and launching new careers.

Past Hall of Fame inductees include Warumpi Band, Kutcha Edwards, Archie Roach, Jimmy Little, Roger Knox, Tiddas, Ruby Hunter, Wilma Reading, Kev Carmody and Gurrumul.

The Australian Music Vault display is located within Arts Centre Melbourne's Theatres Building.

The free exhibition, developed in collaboration with the music industry as part of the Victorian Government's Music Works strategy, showcases the story of Australian contemporary music, past, present and future.
