Music Australia's Export Development Fund is supporting First Nations communities and creatives.

The Fund's third round of investment sees over $900,000 dedicated to 72 projects, involving a range of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, producers, composers and songwriters to undertake career- defining activities around the world.

The Export Development Fund is a matched-funding initiative which has been designed to elevate emerging, breakthrough and established acts into the international market - whilst also fostering sustainable and thriving creative careers.

Focusing on three key pathways to international export, Performance and Touring, Professional and Artistic Development and Market and Audience Development, the Export Development Fund has successfully supported more than 240 projects to date.

Among the 72 projects supported by the latest funding round are works and plans by several Indigenous creatives.

Larry Gurruwiwi - reknowned Yidaki virtuoso - will perform at Switzerland's Fondation Opale with his family band Malawurr (Galpu for "Family").

Walmatjarri Elder, blues and gospel singer-songwriter Kankawa Nagarra's new album WIRLMARNI will be promoted across the US in collaboration with Flippen Yeah and Mississippi Records.

Marliya (Gondwana Choirs) will also receive support. The group recently performed the acclaimed Australian work Spinifex Gum at the Barbican Centre in London.

Director of Music Australia Millie Millgate investment in Australian talent is "vital to ensure our artists can compete and thrive internationally".

"The Export Development Fund helps showcase Australia's diverse talent, grow the market for contemporary Australian music, and build a sustainable future for our music industry," she said.

Applications for the next round of the Export Development Fund will open on the 3rd of February 2025.
