The Murri School in Acacia Ridge held its annual Family Fun Day on Friday to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

This year's theme is "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud".

The event began at 10 am with an acknowledgment to Country, followed by performances from Yuggera dancers, who presented several traditional songs and dances.

The Torres Strait Island Kutaw Zoeru Dance Group also performed, adding to the cultural festivities.

Throughout the day, approximately 1,500 people attended the event, enjoying a range of activities and attractions.

The celebration featured various Indigenous vendors and stalls aimed at promoting knowledge and health among Indigenous communities and youth.

Proud Wooli Wooli and Wakka Wakka woman and The Murri School Princpal, Tanya Saltner, noted the theme of this year's NAIDOC is "something we do every day," stressing the importance of sharing culture.

"My favourite part of NAIDOC is everybody out there having such a great time," she said.

"And not only that but having the community come in and see what we do."

These stalls offered information on various topics, including health, education, sports and cultural awareness.

For children, there were rides and rock climbing, ensuring they had plenty of entertainment.

An Elders' tent provided a space for older attendees to relax and enjoy coffee and cake.

The Family Fun Day highlights the importance of community and cultural pride, bringing together people of all ages to celebrate Indigenous heritage and traditions.
