Created with the intention of changing the way women feel about themselves and their bodies, Indigenous-founded lingerie brand, Lazy Girl Lingerie, is on a mission to celebrate all bodies no matter their shape, size or colour.

Founded by proud First Nations woman, and descendant of the Waanyi people, Cassandra Pons, Lazy Girl Lingerie blends culture and craft with modern themes of positive body image and inclusivity.

After achieving a wealth of success since launching, this week Lazy Girl Lingerie will take to the stage to present at Melbourne Fashion Week for the first time.

Featuring in the Gabu Marra runway on Tuesday, Ponds is thrilled to be able to showcase her brand alongside several other significantly successful Indigenous designers and brands.

"I am so thrilled and honoured to be part of this collaborative show alongside such incredible and inspiring designers," said fashion designer Cassandra Pons.

"I am presenting a new Spring collection. It is flirty and fun, with soft hues designed for embracing your feminine side."

Similar to other in the fashion industry, Pons is noticing a positive shift in the support and celebration of First Nations designers and creatives, which is again made evident in the number of Indigenous designers showcasing at Melbourne Fashion Week.

"I can see First Nations art becoming a central part of the fashion industry which is so beautiful to see. I can see so much support for First Nations designers as well as creatives continuing to work together in collaborations which helps to elevate all artists involved and create a culture of celebrating each other," she said.

When it comes to where the name Lazy Girl Lingerie originated, Pons shares that is actually a direct reflection of the brands garments themselves.

"When I first started my business I had no idea what to call it so I just used my first name Cassandra when I started out. One day the name Lazy Girl Lingerie just dropped into my head because that is what my designs are - easy and effortless to wear designs that make you feel good about the skin you are in," she said.

After leaving her hometown to study fashion design, it was whilst studying in college that Pons had the idea to start and pursue her own lingerie label.

"I have been artsy and creative my whole life and first took an interest in fashion design in my teens. I loved dreaming up new designs and eventually took a leap of faith and left my hometown to study fashion design. It was at college that I fell in love with the art of lingerie and knew that this is the direction my fashion label would take," Pons told Style Up.

One aspect of the brand that Pons has made sure is continuously is reflected and represented in all designs and brand messaging is Lazy Girl Linger's advocacy towards body diversity, and cultural inclusivity.

"Lazy Girl Lingerie is all about lingerie that inspires effortless confidence. The label began with a mission to change the way women feel about themselves and a commitment to celebrating all that makes us unique," she said.

"I am a proud First Nations woman, a descendant of the Waanyi people and am passionate about creating lingerie for all bodies of all shapes, sizes, colours and ages.

"I believe diversity is an absolute must and I think it is my heritage that makes me so passionate about wanting to create a space where all women feel acknowledged, seen and valued. "

With 2024, just around the corner, Pons is currently in the planning process of what's next for Lazy Girl Lingerie.

"2023 has been a biggie with a few runway shows under my belt and new collection launches! I am currently dreaming up what is the vision I want to create for 2024," she said.

"A true project of the heart is my mission to inspire women through my label to celebrate their bodies."

"Lazy Girls believe that all bodies are good bodies, no matter our size, shape, colour or age.
