Gamilaroi comedian Dane Simpson has built a reputation as one of Australia's most beloved stand-ups, known for his infectious energy and sharp, storytelling-driven humour.
From his breakthrough on Deadly Funny to major TV appearances on Have You Been Paying Attention?, Thank God You're Here, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Mr Simpson has won over audiences across the country.
Now, he's bringing his latest show, Didgeri-Dad, to the Sydney Comedy Festival, diving into the wild ride of fatherhood.
A lifelong lover of dad jokes, Mr Simpson now finds himself living the role, reflecting on what lessons he's inherited from his own father and what he'll pass on to his son.
"It's all about how I just became a dad," he said.
"He's (Dane's son) 9 months old at the moment, and it's crazy."
The show is packed with hilarious stories about family, fatherhood, and the general chaos of life, with Mr Simpson questioning whether his son is his legacy—and whether he himself is his father's.
Mr Simpson describes the show as deeply personal, filled with yarns about the people who shaped him.
"My dad obviously taught me how to be a dad—and dad's an idiot, which I love," he said jokingly.
"It's just so silly and fun."
After testing the show at Adelaide Fringe, Mr Simpson was overwhelmed by the response.
"I put it together and thought, 'Is this going to be funny?' But the reviews from punters over there were madness," he said.
"They really got where I was going with it."
With his signature upbeat style and warm, relatable storytelling, Mr Simpson's Sydney Comedy Festival run promises plenty of laughs from the most loveable dad this side of Bluey's Bandit.
'Didgeri-Dad' will run for three nights at the Factory Theatre as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival.
Audiences can catch the show from Wednesday, 30 April to Friday, 2 May, with tickets priced at $29 for general admission seating.
