The National Institute of Dramatic Art's Pathways Program is for First Nations people and People of Colour aged between 18-25 interested in a behind-the-scenes creative career.

NIDA believe that storytelling is powerful, and is committed to ensuring the voices shaping our national narrative reflect the full diversity of Australia.

NIDA's Pathways Program is designed to introduce young people to career opportunities in the screen and performing arts industries.

Director of First Nations and Outreach Travis Cardona said NIDA is and continues to be committed committed to meaningful and long-term engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the performing arts.

"NIDA is committed to meaningful and long-term engagement with First Nations Peoples and People of Colour in the performing arts," he said.

"The Pathways Program showcases how we deliver transformational education and training in the dramatic arts industries."

Participants will engage in hands-on learning and meet a range of industry professionals and NIDA course specialists.

The Pathways Program will provide access to professional facilities, mentorship, and career advice, all designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and empower participants to take their first steps toward a future in the arts.

The January Program includes a one-week immersive experience in the dramatic arts, exploring behind-the-scenes disciplines including design, costume, props, effects and more.

This free program invites participants to explore their potential and discover new pathways to future study or careers in the arts.

Flights and accommodation for interstate participants are included, along with all meals, tuition, and materials. Accommodation for regional NSW participants will also be provided.

When it comes to selection criteria, entrants must identify as First Nations and/or a Person of Colour, be aged between 18-25 and reside in Australia. Those applying must also have an interest in creative industries and behind-the-scenes roles, show motivation, curiosity, and a desire to learn and collaborate, would benefit significantly from access to this opportunity and are available to commit to attend the full program.

NIDA is Australia's national dramatic arts educator and innovator, and offers training in the full suite of skills necessary to create and deliver entertainment experiences for audiences - theatre, film, television, dance, opera, commercials, musicals, festivals, live events, interactive gaming and more.

The Pathways Program was made possible through the support of philanthropic donors and industry partners.

No prior experience required. Applications close on Friday 12th December 2025.
