Gamilaroi musician, The Terrifying Lows, has released a new single 'Inside Your Hive', continuing his evolution as a solo artist with a sound that blends retro influence with modern energy.

Fresh from performing at Dreamtime at the 'G alongside Briggs, Paul Kelly, Barkaa and Kobie D, the Naarm-based artist delivers a track that marks a shift from his earlier moody alt-rock sound.

While still atmospheric, 'Inside Your Hive' introduces a more upbeat, groove-driven style built around a funky bassline and layered production.

Written, recorded and produced by The Terrifying Lows himself, the song draws on the rhythmic swagger of the Manchester scene - think Happy Mondays - but filtered through a contemporary lens.

The result is a track that feels nostalgic and current at the same time.

"It's about that moment when you realise you're giving more than you're getting," he said.

"When admiration turns into projection, and you're chasing an idea of someone rather than the reality of the situation."

The track features his trademark imaginative song writing abilities.

I'm the flower, you're the bee

Heading straight into the heart of me

To devour all my sweet

beautiful pieces of me underneath

There's an emotional push and pull throughout the song, as the lyrics reflect on one-sided desire while the music carries a hypnotic, almost danceable mood.

The mix by Alex Markwell of The Delta Riggs sharpens this balance, bringing out the shimmering guitar textures and cool vocal delivery that sits somewhere between detachment and vulnerability.

'Inside Your Hive' builds on the momentum Mr Millott has developed since his 2021 self-titled debut album.

That project included 'Waiting for the Sun', which placed in the top 40 of the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Competition.

Known for his captivating live sets, The Terrifying Lows has supported Australian acts including Dan Sultan, Richard Clapton, Cam Muncey and Hayley Mary.

This latest release shows a clear step forward in sound, while keeping hold of the emotional depth that has defined his work to date.

The track is available on major streaming platforms now.
