Showcasing Western Australian talent, the unique art exhibition, Coalesce, will debut at Kolbusz Space in Perth on August 3, in conjunction with the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial.

Coalesce will present groundbreaking techniques from artists operating both within and outside the area of traditional craftsmanship, featuring distinct textiles created by Aboriginal artists from regional Western Australia alongside modern ceramic pieces crafted by two artists based in Fremantle/Walyalup.

The exhibition, organised by Sandra Murray, showcases the sculptural ceramics of Tom Freeman and Holly O'Meehan alongside the textiles created by Anita Churchill, Kelly-Ann Drill, Delany Griffiths, Dora Griffiths, and Cathy Ward from Waringarri Aboriginal Arts.

In 2024, the Waringarri artists will transition to screen-printing, marking the debut of their dynamic textiles that incorporate the culturally significant motifs of the Miriwoong people.

Ms O'Meehan, raised in the Great Southern, examines the effects of colonial agricultural practices on the natural environment in Western Australia's Great Southern and Southwest Regions.

She integrates handmade clay and ceramic pieces with organic materials and repurposed items.

Mr Freeman creatively combines unconventional media with clay forms, investigating the physical transformations of clay that take place outside of his control.

The artist from Fremantle incorporates discovered objects from his everyday experiences to create surprising and vibrant results.

Waringarri stands as the first entirely Indigenous-owned art centre in the Kimberley and is recognised as one of the oldest continuously functioning art centres in Australia.

This exhibition is proud to be part of the IOTA24 Festival.
