Indigenous-led cruise and overnight rainforest tour launched in Cairns

Joseph Guenzler -

Two new tourism packages launched in Tropical North Queensland are offering travellers immersive ways to experience Country, culture, and landscape through Indigenous-led storytelling and nature-based activities.

A new evening experience led by Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours combines a Deadly After Dark Sunset Cruise with a curated bush-inspired menu at Cairns' award-winning Ochre Restaurant.

The cruise gives guests access to the traditional lands of the Mandingalbay Yidinji people and Australia's 50th Indigenous Protected Area.

It offers cultural storytelling set against the backdrop of Trinity Inlet before returning to the city for dinner.

Mandingalbay Yidinji man and Operations Manager Dale Mundraby, said the package brings together Country, cuisine, and culture in a respectful and engaging way.

"This package offers something truly special," Mr Mundraby said.

"It's an invitation to connect with the land, the stories, and the flavours of this region in a way that's immersive, respectful, and memorable."

The evening ends at Ochre Restaurant, where guests are served an Outback Menu featuring crocodile, kangaroo and other native bush foods prepared with regional ingredients.

Meanwhile, Cairns Adventure Group has unveiled Overnight on the Daintree Delight, a two-day eco-tour developed in partnership with Experience Co and Ocean Safari.

The experience includes a visit to the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef.

The tour begins with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony at Mossman Gorge, hosted by the Kuku Yalanji people.

Guests then take part in a crocodile cruise on the Daintree River, zipline through the rainforest canopy, and stay overnight in local accommodation.

Day two includes a reef tour with snorkelling at Mackay Reef and Sand Cay, followed by a visit to the Daintree Ice Cream Company.

Cairns Adventure Group Director Roderic Rees said the overnight tour responds to visitor demand for deeper, longer stays in the region.

"After strong feedback from several market segments we have decided to once again give our guests the opportunity to dive deeper into what the region has to offer," Mr Rees said.

"Supporting local business and improving customer experience is at the essence of who we are so it just feels right to restart this iconic overnight rainforest experience."

The package is open for trade bookings from 1 August.
