National webinar to spotlight respectful brand partnerships with First Nations artists launched for NAIDOC Week

Phoebe Blogg -

Copyright Agency has announced it will host a national webinar during NAIDOC Week that guides Australian businesses on how to engage ethically and respectfully with First Nations artists and art centres.

"Doing it Right: Respectful Brand Alignment with First Nations Art" will take place on Wednesday July 9 from 11am to 12pm AEST and is open to brand, marketing, legal and creative professionals across Australia.

Led by leading legal expert Terri Janke, the session will offer practical steps and insights on working with Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP), with perspectives from Art Centre leadership and the Copyright Agency's Visual Arts team.

The session also features a special conversation between Ravi Schneider, Manager of Warmun Art Centre, and April Nulgit, Chairperson of the Centre and an emerging Gija artist.

Together they will discuss how art centres foster cultural continuity, support emerging talent, and facilitate ethical collaborations between artists and businesses.

Dr Janke shared how the webinar will assist in educating viewers with several Indigenous creatives set to take part.

"If you'd like to know more about working with First Nations artists, this is a great place to start. You'll hear directly from an Indigenous author and lawyer, an artist, a remote art centre leader, and the team that helps the partnerships come together," she said.

The webinar is free to attend and will include a post-event resource pack, including ICIP principles, a licensing guide, and a replay link.

The event will be hosted via Microsoft Teams and is part of Copyright Agency's broader commitment to supporting respectful and equitable representation of First Nations creativity in the commercial space.

Copyright Agency is an Australian not-for-profit representing over 40,000 creators, including publishers, authors, and visual artists. It provides licensing solutions that allow businesses to legally copy, share and store content while ensuring creators are fairly paid.

Doing it Right: Respectful Brand Alignment with First Nations Art will take place on Wednesday the 9th of July 2025 at 11:00am – 12:00pm AEST.
