Your art could win you a trip to Canberra and be exhibited at Parliament House!
There is less than one month to go until entries close for the Yarning storytelling-through-art competition.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students are invited to share their stories with the Australian Parliament and public through art.
Three winners will receive an expenses-paid trip to Canberra, including flights, accommodation and experiences. Their artwork will also be exhibited at Parliament House. Want more? - there's also a prize pack valued at $250. But everyone's a winner as all competition entries will be displayed on the Yarning website and promoted to members of Australian Parliament.
Submissions close 11 May 2026. Visit Yarning Competition - Sharing Stories, Celebrating Culture to find out more and to get your entries in soon.
Yarning is a program created by the Department of the House of Representatives, providing a platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to interact with the work of the Australian Parliament through art.
Students may choose a creative medium such as visual art, text, photography, video or audio to share their story related to one of the four themes - Country and Connection; Identity and Culture; Family and Community; Reconciliation.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick, said the Yarning Competition is "a wonderful new program where we recognise the emerging talent of our First Nations artists and young people from across Australia".
"Yarning was designed to give young First Nations people a platform to share not just their artwork, but their ideas and perspectives," he said.
