Passionate First Nations creative and storyteller Christopher Saunders recently sat down with Style Up fresh from his involvement at Australian Fashion Week.

Originally from South Victoria, Saunders is a proud Gunditjmara man and represented by First Nations-founded and led agency, BlakList.

"I was lucky enough to be involved with Australian fashion week 2025. I think it was a pretty momentous occasion for us as BlakList to be reppin' and also walking and being present in those spaces," he said.

"I was offered the opportunity through BlakList as one of the models to attend Australian Fashion Week. It was my first time. I was absolutely terrified and nervous and ready for the experience.

"I was actually very lucky enough to be like scouted on the streets by Jordan Gogos and he looked at me and he said are you walking my show and I said 'no', he said do you want to be and I said 'yes' and that was crazy and I'm forever grateful for the opportunity."

"I got involved with BlakList after seeing one of my friends started becoming involved with the group. I sussed them out on Instagram and found that they had really strong ties to people that I knew already within the fashion industry," he said.

"I was initially scared to be involved but I just remember TJ saying if you put all your trust and faith in me we're gonna go places; we have already and next stop is global domination. We're taking Black voices and Black stories global."

Regularly engaging in many fields of creative work, Saunders strives to try everything and give it his best.

"I find creative spaces so diverse and so interesting and I really want to do it all. Even if I'm not good at it, I want to have the opportunity to try out different things. I've been known to talk until the cows come home," he said.

"I've been known to crack jokes even when no one asked for them, so I will forever be taking every opportunity to make whatever room I'm in a brighter space whether that be on a runway, in a design room on set for a film, presenting at an award show or you know just speaking with about mob and on our country."

When looking ahead, Saunders is eager to continue his creative work and dive into a range of new projects.

"All I'm saying is watch this space. Keep focused support local mob listen to our stories. We are so ready, big love you mob," he said.
