Mandandanji/Waanyi rapper Say True God? has released his debut album 'BLAK,' marking a milestone in his career.
The album was officially launched on Friday following a midnight listening party in Magandjin's (Brisbane) Fortitude Valley.
Family, children, friends and collaborators joined him to celebrate the special occasion.
Speaking to National Indigenous Times at the launch, he said the event exceeded expectations.
"Honestly, I didn't think like so many people would rock up to support me.," he said.
"And I think that's just like, you know, growing up as Blackfella we don't expect so many people to support us, you know.
"I was expecting like one or two or just the family friends here, but they rocked up tonight and it was deadly."
'BLAK' blends nostalgic and high-energy hip hop, while also diving into personal reflections of his life as a father, role model and community man.
Say True God? said the project represents growth.
"The listeners can expect to hear... a progressing like maturity and my understanding of the fight that our people face," he said.
"I love being the example of being the one that our children can look up to."
The rapper rose to prominence in 2022 with his viral track 'Wicked,' an underground hip hop melody paired with raw, personal lyrics.
'BLAK' includes features from Indigenous and Pasifika artists; GodFamilyHustle, Shely210, NATE G, Big Deej, Deltoy of ECB, Enzo and Stanley T.
Each brings a distinct sound to the album's mix of personal storytelling and bold delivery.
Despite its raw energy, Say True God? said the record reflects healing and cycles of change.
"The album itself is a reflection of like breaking those cycles, healing those generation of children," he said.
"Nothing works better than lived experience to be able to work with our children."
