A new six-part documentary series placing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and leadership at the centre of climate change conversations is available to watch nationwide this month.
The First Nations Climate Change Series brings together voices from across Australia to share stories of resilience, cultural practices and leadership in caring for Country.
Produced by creative agency Little Rocket in collaboration with the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, the series features 14 First Nations leaders and experts speaking about their lived experience with climate change.
Filmed across more than 13 locations, from bushlands to coastlines, each episode highlights the deep and ongoing connection between people, place and climate, guided by the understanding that Country is living and interconnected.
Little Rocket said the project was developed to "support genuine and meaningful representation of First Nations Peoples in international climate change discussions".
The series features appearances by Clint Hansen, Marietta Matasia, Uncle Dave Wandin, Mibu Fischer, Victor Steffensen, Samarla Deshong, Samantha Murray, Josh Gilbert, Rikki Tanika Dank, Anthony Baker, Dr Anne Poelina, James Stephens, Yessie Mosby, and Joe Morrison.
Through strategic storytelling and communications, the series aims to elevate First Nations perspectives while building awareness and capacity for participation in global climate decision-making processes.
The series was screened internationally at COP30 in Brazil in November last year, presenting a critical First Nations perspective on Australia's climate future.
For Little Rocket said the project represents the agency's "most significant production to date", developed over twelve months in partnership with communities and government to ensure authentic storytelling and respectful representation.
The First Nations Climate Change Series will be released more broadly to audiences across Australia, "supporting continued conversations about climate action, Country, and the leadership role of First Nations Peoples in shaping a sustainable future".
