The popular markets were last held in Randwick City in 2023 on Bare Island. Randwick mayor Dylan Parker said the return of the markets to the area was a significant moment for the community.

"Randwick City Council has supported the Blak Markets since it began in 2014 at La Perouse, a place of deep cultural importance where the local Aboriginal community maintains an unbroken connection to Country," he said.

"We're proud to partner with First Hand Solutions to return the Blak Markets to this culturally significant and historic location."

First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Peter Cooley said the Blak Markets helped to ensure Aboriginal people could engage in the commercial economy at La Perouse.

"I grew up in La Perouse watching the men carving wood and the women making shell art," he said.

"But to imagine what we were aiming for when we started the Blak Markets, you'd have to imagine yourself back in the 1920s when people swarmed to La Perouse to enjoy the snake shows, La Loop café, Aboriginal artists and our beaches before taking the twilight tram back to Sydney."

"Things have changed since we started the Blak Markets 11 years ago, but the deep interest in Aboriginal culture continues."

Peter said visitors to the Blak Markets at La Perouse would "spend a day immersed in culture, creativity and community.

"Blak Markets is more than just a shopping experience; it's a celebration of First Nations arts and culture, and a chance for everyone to connect, learn and support Aboriginal artists and businesses. It's a wonderful way to give back while enjoying a day of music, art and community spirit."

The Blak Markets on Sunday 7th December will be the first of four to be held on the La Perouse headland before the end of 2026.
